The BUNN and Bunn-O-Matic brand are synonymous with quality coffee makers and equipment. Although most BUNN brewers are for commercial purposes (pour over coffee machines), Bunn-O-Matic do provide a line of drip / filter style coffee machines for home use. In fact, BUNN were the first company to produce a drip coffee brewer specifically for use in the home. They do not, however, make espresso or cappuccino machines. Are BUNN Coffee Makers Better?

BUNN - The main difference between BUNN and other brands of Drip/Filter style coffee machines is the water reservoir. BUNN machines have a hot water reservoir that keeps the water hot at all times. This hot water is then 'dumped', or poured over all the coffee grounds in one hit - hence the name 'pour over'.

Other - Other styles of coffee machines have cold water reservoirs. These work by heating the water as it gradually drips onto the coffee grounds.

Advantages of BUNN Hot Water Reservoir:

SPEED - because the water is pre-heated, the whole brewing process is a lot faster. The Bunn-O-Matic home machines will brew 10 cups in 3 minutes. Less waiting around.
OTHER USES - hot water is always on-hand for other purposes, including tea making and powdered soups, etc.
RESTAURANT STYLE - by using a BUNN system, your coffee will be the same as the drip coffee you get from BUNN machines in restaurants. If you like this coffee, then go for a BUNN.

Disadvantages of Hot Water Reservoir:

RUNNING COST - to keep the water constantly hot, Bunn-O-Matics need a constant supply of electricity. This makes them much more expensive to run than other styles of drip coffee maker. To ease this problem, BUNN machines come with a Vacation Switch that allows you to turn off the water heating whilst you are away.
WEAK COFFEE? - depending on your taste, you might consider that the pre-heated pour-over method of brewing leaves your coffee weak and under-extracted. This is because the whole process happens too quickly. If this is the case, the other styles of coffee machine that take longer to brew may suit you better.
